Top match to kick-off the German Bundesliga
FC Bayern Munich welcome VfL Wolfsburg
The 48th Bundesliga football season is set to start with a top match: defending champions FC Bayern Munich will face the previous year’s German champions VfL Wolfsburg on 20th August. The season-opener, which is traditionally played in the incumbent champions’ stadium, will be broadcast live on free TV (ARD), pay TV and on the Internet (Sky), as well as on IPTV (Liga total). Kick-off is at 20:30.
Runners-up FC Schalke 04 will have to make a trip to Hamburg SV to start off the 2010/11 Bundesliga season. 2. Bundesliga champion 1. FC Kaiserslautern starts with an away match at 1. FC Cologne.
2. Bundesliga has a local derby between newly promoted FC Ingolstadt 04 and FC Augsburg on the first day of the season. Hertha BSC Berlin, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last year, start with a home game against Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, while VfL Bochum face TSV 1860 Munich.
The exact schedule for the first round of matches will be completed in the next few days. Full match schedules for the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, including all 612 encounters, are available at www.bundesliga.de.
