The Netherlands Football Federation (KNVB) decided to have fixed season take off dates for the Jupiler League and Eredivisie, starting from 2010-2011.

During the seasons when national teams are not working towards a major international final tournament, as in 2010/2011, the Eredivisie starts in the second weekend of August. Therefore, the first round of the upcoming season will take place on the weekend of 6-8 August 2010. A week later, on Friday, 13 August 2010, begins the Jupiler League.

In the case that the football year ends with a qualification for a major international final tournament for the national team, the Eredivisie starts on the first weekend of August. " We want the clubs to be well prepared to the start of their national team campaigns, by starting early in August. It is obviously in the interest of Dutch football clubs that Netherlands national team performs well internationally'', said the Manager of Competition Affairs of KNVB, Gijs de Jong.
