Ukrainian Professional Football League is a young organization in comparison with that of the other European Football leagues, having a long term history.  On the other hand we are future-oriented in our activity and open to communication and cooperation for the common purpose of football development, prosperity, well-being and success.

History
The establishment of the Professional Football League of Ukraine dates back to 26th May, 1996, when at the overview conference of non-amateur Football clubs its participants signed the organization into existence, having adopted the Charter and approved the executive staff to be headed by Grygoriy Surkis, the president of Football Club Dynamo Kyiv. Later on, July 17, 1996, as by agreement between Football Federation of Ukraine and Professional Football League of Ukraine for the purpose of the decision of the Executive Committee, it was adopted that the Professional Football League of Ukraine handles issues related to the organization, administration and running the Non-amateur Teams competitions. Since 22 December 2000 till 16 December 2008 the Professional Football League of Ukraine was headed by Senior Vice-President of Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk Ravil Safiullin.

On December 16 2008 the Assembly of the Professional Football League of Ukraine took place. At the Assembly the delegates representing football clubs of PFL elected Svyatoslav Syrota to the presidency of the Professional Football League of Ukraine. The Professional Football League is not only in charge of running the competitions, regulating the relations between Clubs and Players, but also act as guarantor of adherence to the agreement obligations and moral standards, consolidation of the high performance at the National Football arena.

Formerly representing the clubs of the Top Division, which now comes within cognizance of the Premier League of Ukraine, the Professional Football League introduces 49 professional clubs represented by 52 teams. All-Ukrainian competitions are run in two leagues: the Perscha League comprises 17 teams; the Druga League comprises 35 teams in groups “A” and “B”.
