The Premier League has released a statement regarding Blackpool FC's opening day fixture with Wigan Athletic FC.
Following ongoing discussions with Blackpool FC in respect of the agreed improvements to their stadia and facilities it has been decided, by all parties, to reverse their opening day fixture against Wigan Athletic FC.
Blackpool FC's first fixture of the season will be away at Wigan Athletic FC on Saturday 14 August (3pm kick-off) at the DW Stadium. The club's home fixture against Wigan Athletic FC is now scheduled for Saturday 16 April 2011.
Extremely Helpful
The Board felt it was important to take this decision as early as possible if there was any potential for Blackpool FC's stadium not being ready for the first match of the season. This is the only Blackpool FC fixture that will be affected and this decision will give both clubs and their supporters maximum time to plan accordingly.
The Board would like to put on record its thanks to both Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan RL whose flexibility in the circumstances has been extremely helpful.
