The European Commissioner Ján Figel, in charge of Sport, received the EPFL Special Award 2007/2008 in Biarritz, during a meeting with the EPFL Chairman, Sir David Richards, the Association’s Deputy Chairman Frédéric Thiriez and the CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros.
This 2007/2008 Special Award, recently conferred by the EPFL during its 3rd Anniversary Celebration, renders tribute to Commissioner Figel’ in recognition for the launch of the White Paper on Sport and acknowledgement of the EPFL's credentials as major force within European Sport and as a relevant interlocutor vis-a-vis the European institutions for Professional Football relates matters.

On that occasion Commissioner Ján Figel’ stated: “I feel greatly honoured to receive your special award. As always, an award is about more than just one person. I see it as an award for the team work behind the Commission’s White Paper on Sport. I’m therefore very pleased that this award gives me the opportunity to thanks the EPFL for the constant engagement both in the consultation leading to the White Paper and the following up consultation for implementing its action plan”.
