Timetable and format is approved by the Board
Spain Second Division Board of Directors met in Madrid on Tuesday to reach a unanimous decision regarding the fixtures, format and competition dates for the Liga Adelante 2010/2011 season and a new system of play-off matches for the third promotion place to the Liga BBVA.
The next Liga Adelante season will begin on 29th August 2010 and finish on 5th June 2011. Two mid-week matchdays will be played – on 2nd March and 11th May.
On conclusion of the regular season, the bottom four teams will descend from the category to the Second Division B while the top two teams will automatically gain promotion to the Liga BBVA. The third team to gain promotion will be the side that emerges victorious from a series of Play-Offs involving the third, fourth, fifth and sixth-places teams in the final standings.
The two-legged Play-Offs will function as follows: third place will face sixth place while fourth place will take on fifth place on the 8th and 12th June. The first leg of the ties will be played in the stadiums of those that finished fifth and sixth place in the table.
The winners of both Play-Off ties will dispute the final promotion place in a two-legged tie to be played on 15th and 19th June. The first leg will be played at the stadium of the team who finished lowest down in the Liga Adelante table.
