Leo Messi was awarded with the prize for the FIFA World Player which his given by the governing body of world football to the best player in the world. The voting process, as usual, had the participation of the national team managers and captains of the all world.
“It is a great honour when you are elected by other colleagues from other national teams. I want to share it with my team mates. It is the best way to finish a magnificent year”, said the Argentinean star after receiving the trophy from the hands of the UEFA President, Michel Platini.
The other four finalists contesting for the prize, also play in “La Liga BBVA”: Messi’s team mates Xavi and Iniesta and the Real Madrid players Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, six players playing in “La Liga BBVA”, were included in the starting eleven of the year: the Barcelona players Dani Alves, Xavi, Iniesta and Messia plus two Real Madrid players, Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo also got the newly created Puskas award which elects the best goal of the year. The elected goal was a spectacular successful shot which he scored for his old team, Manchester United, in a match against Porto for the Champions League.
