Davies promotes 'Healthy goals for life'

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies visit Brownlow Fold Primary SchoolBolton Wanderers captain Kevin Davies took time out to visit Brownlow Fold Primary School.

He popped in to find out more about the Premier League 'Healthy Goals for Life' project that is being delivered in Primary schools across the borough by Bolton Wanderers Football Community Trust. This visit was part of this year's Premier League Places for Players initiative.

The programme, funded by the Football Foundation, the Premier League and the PFA, is aimed at promoting and encouraging healthy eating, fitness and well-being.

It has seen the club engage with 24 different schools across Bolton in the past two years, educating 6-11-year-olds in nutrition, physical activity and showing them that learning can be fun.

BOUNCE MATS

Davies spent his time at the school overseeing a physical activity circuit session including target throw, standing long jump and speed bounce mats and he assisted the BWCT staff in recording the children's results and offering them advice on the set exercises.

A group of the pupils rounded up Davies'  visit by rapping a short self-penned song that had been written to celebrate his visit to the school.

Recent research by the local Primary Care Trust has revealed that one in four children in Bolton are obese or overweight and just over 25 per cent of four and five year olds, and nearly 30 per cent of 10 and 11 year olds, desperately need to lose weight.

Striker Davies said: "It's great to take the time to promote the huge benefits of healthy eating and exercise in the local community. I've got young children and the statistics about child obesity are shocking and it's great that the club are setting an example and making a stance to combat this."
