Italian Lega Pro promotes young players in four-team tournament

The 32nd Edition of the Lega Pro four-team tournament took place in the Italian cities of Avellino and Aversa, from 24 to 26 January 2012.  This edition of such a traditional youth football competition counted with the participation of four U-21 teams composed of 72 Lega Pro Clubs’ players, which represented each Group of Lega Pro’s First and Second Division.

“Lega Pro is built from  youth football. Since its start in 1959, the Lega Pro mission is to promote youth football, which is the lifeblood for the future of Italian football. This edition of the Lega Pro four-team tournament, organized in collaboration with the City Councils of Avellino and Aversa, is a prestigious showcase for young players” said Mario Macali, Lega Pro President.

The competition, which used a one-leg knock-out system, consisted of two semi-final matches (both played in Aversa on 24th January), followed by a final and a 3rd-place match (both played in Avellino on the 26th January). The U-21 representative of the Prima Divisione Girone A (First Division Group A) defeated its counterpart from Seconda Divisone Girone B (Second Division, Group B), with a final score of 3-0, becoming champion of the Lega Pro Four-Team Tournament 2012.

: U-21 First Division Group B v. U-21 Second Division Group B: 3-3 (and 4-6 after penalty kicks)
Semi-final 2: U-21 First Division Group A v. U-21 Second Division Group A: 1-0
3rd Place Match: U-21 First Division Group B v. U-21 Second Division Group A: 3-0
Final: U-21 First Division Group A v. U-21 Second Division Group B: 3-0
