
Finnish football season starts on Friday, 22 January 2010, with the League Cup. This competition is played in the same format as in previous years and the champions will lift the cup on 10 April 2010.
League Cup defending champion is Tampere United, beat the most successful club HJK Helsinki by 2-0, last spring 2009.
Even though Tampere United ended up in the eighth position of the League last season, they were able to celebrate the League Cup title. It is the fourth year in a row that the competition as a different champion.
The League Cup is held since 1994, although from 2001 to 2004 the competition was not played.
