The French Government has also undertaken the political and legal commitment of taking strong action against unlicensed and unlawful online betting operators or those who seek to offer unauthorized bets. Grassroots sports are expected to benefit from a 1% turnover levy on all sports bets.

“This is indeed a positive and welcome development”, commented Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros. “We now call on the other European countries to follow France’s footsteps and support similar proposals, in logical coherence with the conclusions of the meeting of Sports Ministers of the Council of Europe, held in Athens last December”.
