A delegation headed by Bundesliga Foundation managing director Kurt Gaugler has visited South Africa, host country for the upcoming World Cup finals, to check on the progress of the 'Kick it! Choose Life' project. Run by the humanitarian organisation CARE International and co-sponsored by the Bundesliga Foundation, the project provides local children and teenagers with an alternative to life on the streets in the form of sporting activity, as well as a support programme aimed at educating youngsters on the dangers of AIDS, drug abuse and criminality.
"South Africa has been particularly affected by the spread of AIDS, which makes projects such as 'Kick it! Choose life' all the more important. We'd like to offer children a perspective, and that's why we're delighted to be supporting this project", said Kurt Gaugler, who presented youngsters in a Johannesburg township with footballs, strips and t-shirts provided by Bundesliga partner adidas.
Bundesliga Foundation funds flow directly into the CARE project to help the children in as direct a way as possible. "CARE has been committed to socially-driven programmes for decades and we are confident that, in CARE, we have found the right partner", Gaugler commented.
