The foundation Bundesliga Stiftung is receiving some prominent support. Former German Chancellor Dr. h.c. Gerhard Schröder, former German foreign minister Dr. Klaus Kinkel, EU commissioner and former Bavarian premier Dr. Dr. h.c. Edmund Stoiber, German handball world champion coach Heiner Brand and Werner E. Klatten, supervisory board chairman of Deutsche Sporthilfe were named new trustees of the Bundesliga Stiftung. As part of the constituents meeting of the board of trustees, they received a certificate of appointment from the chairman of the foundation council Dr. Reinhard Rauball and the chairman of the board of the Bundesliga Stiftung Tom Bender. In addition, the former TV director Dr. h.c. Fritz Pleitgen was elected as the chairman of the board of trustees.
"In the name of the Bundesliga Stiftung, I would like to thank our board of trustees for their commitment. We are happy that more notable personalities from the worlds of politics, sports and science are committed to the work of the Bundesliga Stiftung," said Dr. Reinhard Rauball. "Football is a meaningful part of our society. And there is a responsibility coming from that which we would like to carry along with our trustees."
The Bundesliga Stiftung named its first seven trustees in January. They were football idol Günter DFL News June Netzer, television legend Fritz Pleitgen, Adidas boss Herbert Hainer, fencing Olympic champion Britta Heidemann, high bar world champion Eberhard Gienger as well as the honorary members of the league federation Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder and Wilfried Straub.
