Bundesliga Foundation sponsors young and talented athletes

As part of the sponsorship agreement between German Sports Aid Foundation and the Bundesliga
Foundation, sponsorships have been given to 34 young and talented German athletes from a range of sports.

As a sponsor, the Bundesliga Foundation believes in taking an active role in the sporting careers and personal development of young athletes. They continue to support the emerging young sports talents with an injection of 3,000 Euro per athlete per year. Projects such as this one enable the Bundesliga Foundation to strengthen its' commitment to promoting athletes involved in other sports. The aim of the project is to promote and sustain high quality standards of sport in Germany.

At the Winter Olympics in Vancouver two young prodigies, with the backing of Bundesliga intiative,
celebrated success as they both received medals in the prospective events. 21 year old speed skater, Stephanie Beckert, won Gold in the ladies team pursuit race and two Silver medals for her efforts in the 3000 m and 5000 m distances. Meanwhile, in the team 4x5 km Nordic Combined event 18 year old Johannes Rydzek played a major role in winning the Bronze medal for the team.

"By taking over the sponsorship of young and talented German athletes we are proving our commitment to making Germany an elite sporting nation once again. Of course, we are extremely happy with the results of our talented youngsters at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. It was a true demonstration of how important it is to support and nurture the young talent out there. That was the reason we decided to increase our sponsorship opportunities," stated Kurt Gaugler, CEO of the Bundesliga Foundation.

The sponsorship program that is run by the German Sports Aid Foundation has been around since 1992 and currently supports 150 top young athletes. By acquiring the existing 30 sponsorships belonging to the DFB Foundation Egidius Braun and four further sponsorships, they are able to successfully promote more than one fifth of the athletes who benefit from the elite funding. Supporting an elite athlete on an individual level refers to sports related support as well as support to create chances for further development.
