Litex Lovech celebrating winning the Bulgarian National Cup

On 26 May Litex Lovech overcame Pirin Blagoevgrad with a 3-0 victory to win the Bulgarian National Cup “Ford Moto-Pfohe” for the second consecutive year. Over 10 000 football fans attended the final, which took place at Georgi Asparuhov stadium in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.

After tense first 15 minutes Litex found its pace and the French striker Wilfried Niflore broke the deadlock with a scrambled effort from close range. The Lovech-based club, lifting the trophy for the fourth time in the last eight years, sealed victory after Brazilian Doka Madureira and Krum Bibishkov scored at 72’ and 86’ minutes.

Pirin, who eliminated the most popular Bulgarian teams CSKA Sofia and Levski Sofia in previous rounds, lost their fourth Cup final after failing to create any clearcut chances.

Valentin Mihov offers the prestigious trophy in the hand of Litex captain Radostin Kishishev"We decided to play with two tall strikers and I think it was the key of our success. The win is very important as it ensures one place in next year’s European competition. We were under  pressure because of that, but we coped well and deserved the win" said Litex coach Stanimir Stoilov, who is also Bulgarian national team coach. The tournament winner will participate in next season's UEFA Europa League.

During the final’s official ceremony, the President of the Bulgarian Professional Football League, Valentin Mihov, offered the prestigious trophy in the hand of Litex captain Radostin Kishishev.
