The Scottish Premier League is pleased to announce that it has signed up as a supporter of 1GOAL: Education for All.
1GOAL is a global campaign which aims to use the power of football to ensure world leaders allocate funding that will see every child in the world receive a primary education by 2015.
Having officially launched in April, 1GOAL will run until the World Cup final in South Africa on July 11 and is about raising awareness, not funds.
The FIFA-backed project will use this summer’s tournament in South Africa as a platform to target football fans around the world and has over 150 players past and present as ambassadors, including Zinedine Zidane, Fabio Capello and Cristiano Ronaldo.
A lengthy list of clubs around the world have also pledged their support to the 1GOAL campaign, including Celtic, Barcelona, Manchester United and Inter Milan - and the SPL is delighted to offer its backing to such a worthwhile cause.
SPL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: "There are 72 million children in the world who are denied the chance to go to school. This surely must change and hopefully, with the support of the Scottish Premier League, 1GOAL can help to ensure every child receives the right to an education."
